Programme Description
General and specific objectives
Main objectives:
a) support studies of Slovenes abroad
b) increase international mobility outside of EU programs to slovene high school and higher education students
c) provide foreigners the opportunity for obtaining education in secondary or tertiary level in Slovenia
d) improve quality of tertiary education by attracting and involving visiting professors into pedagogical process at tertiary level
e) establish networks and increase the research potential of Slovenia through visiting foreign researches in natural sciences, technology and medicine to Slovenia and include them in research and national development projects in Slovenia or to involve them into applicable research in business sector

 
Priority actions
a) scholarships for studies of Slovene citizens abroad
b) scholarships for study visits, vocational training or research visits of Slovenes abroad
c) scholarships for secondary level education to young people from Western Balkans region (primarily ex-Yugoslavia countries) to obtain either International Baccalaureate (IB) or secondary technical education in Slovenia
d) scholarships for PhD studies in natural sciences, technology or medicine in Slovenia; although the program is opened to any foreigner, majority of candidates and recipients come from ex-Yugoslavia countries
e) scholarships for graduate (master or PhD) studies in natural sciences, technology or medicine in Slovenia for citizens of Kosovo
f) monthly grants for visiting professors and researchers

 
Management and coordination
The Slovene Human Resources Develoment and Scholarship Fund is the central Slovene institution for scholarships and development of human resources. Programmes related to international mobility of pupils, students and researchers are carried out by the Fund’s Department for international cooperation - Ad futura. The sector thus deals with all international calls for applications and operates on a permanent basis.
All programs are under auspice of Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs, while certain actions involve also the participation and cooperation of other stated ministries and other institutions.

 
Expected or achieved outputs, outcomes and impacts
- high skilled labour force and researchers with foreign degrees, who bring strategically important knowledge and international network to Slovenia
- provide short term mobility opportunities for Slovenes to gain multicultural skills
- a network of excellent foreign researchers, which will be included in the research development projects, that are strategically important for Slovenia, with puropose of long term cooperation between foreign and Slovene researchers, contributing to the research potential of Slovenia
- increase transfer of knowledge and skills of individuals to raise competitiveness of the economy and research sector in both countries
- facilitate arrival of foreign professors to Slovenia to increase quality of higher education and support HEI in building networks with institutions in and outside Europe
- facilitate arrival of foreign researchers and scientists to increase the research potential of Slovenia and build network and research coooperation between both countries
