Programme Description
General and specific objectives
Education plays a central role in poverty reduction and sustainable development and creates positive effects in all areas, mainly in health by the adoption of healthy habits and in the environment protection promoting an environmental conscious. In S. Tomé and Principe the development of the education sector is one of the priorities of this programme primarily the secondary level and the tertiary level.
Priority actions
- Improve teaching quality at the secondary level by teacher training ;
- To contribute to the strengthening of institutions via support for school management and aid in reformulating curricula;
- Aid the training of STP students by providing study and research grants, mainly in tertiary level;
- To promote Portuguese as a central vehicle for education and training;
- To enhance the role of specialized education levels – e.g. higher education and technical/vocational training – as a vehicle for sustained economic and social development.
