Programme Description
General and specific objectives
The Lisbon MBA is a joint effort from the two Portuguese business schools - Católica and Nova - and the MIT Sloan School of Management.
This partnership with MIT is reflected in the design of the programme, in the global perspective given to the curriculum and in the period spent in Boston, attending classes on MIT's campus.
The design of the programme includes an immersion period at MIT, in the United States, allowing participants to study across two continents.
Besides this international exposure, students of The Lisbon MBA will have the opportunity to work and exchange experiences with colleagues and faculty members, from different nationalities and cultures, in an international atmosphere.
The international perspective is present in all aspects of the curriculum, as the Lisbon MBA was designed with the objective of training business leaders ready to be effective in an increasingly multicultural world. This international atmosphere and experience will also help students build an international network of contacts.
The Programme's ties with the corporate world, with major companies closely involved in its governance and sponsoring - providing a network of international internships.

Priority actions
The Lisbon MBA, a full-time intensive programme, runs for one year divided into five very active academic periods, including a period of full immersion at the MIT Sloan School of Management and a mandatory international internship.
The first class of The Lisbon MBA will take place from January 6, 2009 until December 18, 2009.
The period of full immersion at the MIT Sloan School of Management will run from June 1st to June 17th. During this immersion students will have the opportunity to take three courses lectured by MIT professors and enjoy all the life of the MIT campus.

Expected or achieved outputs, outcomes and impacts
The programme will be taught in Lisbon with the active participation of the Sloan School of Management from MIT, where students will have periods of immersion during their training. Students will be selected for international competition, scheduled to start in January 2009 with 40 students.
The programme is due to train around 330 managers in the next 5 years. The proportion of foreign students is expected to increase gradually to about 50% of the total number of students from the 5th grade, when it is estimated an annual admission of about 100 students.
The recruitment and selection of students will be made at the level of best European practice, and has projected scholarships for about 25% of students accepted.
The programme will strengthen the capacity of university research in the field of management in Portugal and is particularly designed to facilitate the deepening of relations between business and the university community.
