Programme Description
General and specific objectives
Objectives include:
- Contribution to enriching the offer of foreign languages courses
- Support for the diffusion of French in the world
- Intercultural outlook provided to students
- Promotion of student mobility (from primary to university)
- Initial professionalization of future teachers
- Interdisciplinary approach to the “language” subject

 
Priority actions
1. Three types of contracts are proposed to those Assistants recruited as temporary agents : 6 months in IUFM - Institut Universitaire de Formation des Maîtres (teacher training college);
2. 7 months in primary and secondary school;
3. 9 months in primary school

In France, the role of Assistant could include:
1. Supporting the development of the competences in oral expression and comprehension of the students
2. Supporting the work of the permanent teachers
3. Participation in educational activities within the school/ university
4. Supporting pupils with difficulties
5. Participation in the organisation of inter-school exchanges
6. Transversalisation of the subject « foreign language » : teaching another subject in a foreign language
7. Elaboration of documentary resources for teaching to students

 
Management and coordination
The CIEP is managing this programme on behalf of the Ministry of Education (Unit « Assistants » of the Département langues étrangères within the CIEP).
The CIEP co-organises , with its partners abroad, bilateral commissions for the selection of candidates. They also provide the opportunity to redefine the selection criteria, the management structures etc.
